Leading energy generator, RWE, was proud to continue its sponsorship and active participation in this year’s Cleethorpes Armed Forces Event which received a record number of visitors this year. Cleethorpes, renowned for hosting Armed Forces Days for over a decade, once again came alive with patriotism and community spirit during the celebrations with took place from Friday 27th June to Sunday 30th June 2025 with the main event in North East Lincolnshire taking place on the Saturday, featuring a formal parade, and air and land-based displays with a focus on family activities.
The Armed Forces Weekend was packed with exciting displays, parades, military equipment, live music, and much more – stretching across the Cleethorpes resort. It is estimated that over 200,000 visitors attended the celebrations over the weekend.
The event kicked off on Friday evening with the Armed Forces Community Carnival Parade. RWE was represented in the parade with members of the Grimsby based team decorating an offshore wind themed float and joining the marching bands, youth groups, local dance and drama groups and local businesses taking part entertaining the thousands of people lining the streets to watch.
As well as providing important sponsorship funding for the event, RWE also actively participated in the main event over the weekend. In partnership with local skills and education activity specialists, UK STEM and Lab Rascals, the RWE team managed a stand on the promenade, entertaining children and families with live science demonstrations and interactive activities showcasing renewable energy and, in particular, offshore wind which is an ever growing sector in the North East. RWE staff (including ex-military personnel who have transitioned into a role at RWE) were also on hand to answer any questions and provide careers advice to serving and ex-military event attendees who may be looking to transition into a role in renewable energy in the future.

In 2024, RWE was honoured with the Armed Forces Covenant Defence Employers Recognition Scheme Gold Award, underscoring its dedication to recruiting and supporting Armed Forces veterans, reservists, and their families. Through collaboration with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), RWE actively participates in career fairs, shares opportunities on the CTP platform, and ensures seamless integration for new employees transitioning from the military to the renewables sector.
