innogy(1) is targeting the appointment of up to 22 mostly high-skilled roles at its new Triton Knoll Operations & Maintenance (O&M) base in Grimsby, as the project continues to deliver local jobs and investment.
Adverts for the new roles go live from today (Wednesday 31 July, 2019), as the company seeks to identify diverse, local talent for a range of jobs from production manager and site administrator, to SAP and wind turbine technicians.
While skills and experience are important they’re not exclusive, as the project seeks to also attract new talent and career switchers to the offshore sector, providing full training for the right candidates.
Once appointed, the O&M team at Triton Knoll’s four-acre base at ABP’s Grimsby port, will operate the 857MW offshore wind farm, and be responsible for ensuring the delivery of electricity from the state-of-the-art infrastructure project to UK homes and businesses.
Kerry Monument, a former Grimsby apprentice and now Operations & Maintenance Manager for Triton Knoll and innogy, is building the team. He said the current recruitment drive highlights the longer-term opportunities which the growing offshore wind industry can deliver in UK coastal communities.
He said: “These jobs offer a fantastic opportunity to work locally and long-term, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the diverse north east talent that’s out there.
“Clearly, we’re interested in people with experience; but we’re also keen to pave the way for new talent into the sector, for ex-military, those looking to switch careers, electricians, engineers, mechanics – anyone with transferable skills who’s considering a career in an exciting, successful and growing industry.
“Offshore wind is an industrial success story, with an increasingly stable and growing pipeline of future projects as UK government increasingly commits to offshore wind as the backbone of its low carbon energy network. That’s got to be a green light for local, skilled and experienced people to make the switch to offshore wind.”
Fifteen of the first round of jobs are for Wind Turbine Technicians who will work offshore on the 90 turbines due to be installed over 20 miles off the coast of Lincolnshire, from 2021. There will be extensive training for the successful candidates both from innogy, which has secured the long term O&M contract for the wind farm, and Triton Knoll’s turbine contractor MVOW. Candidates will ultimately qualify as fully-fledged Wind Turbine technicians and will work from a “state of the art” Service Vessel.
The first 22 jobs being advertised are as follows:
- 15 x Wind Turbine Generator Technicians – with responsibilities across the whole range of range wind turbine maintenance, servicing, upgrading, including electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems, fault diagnosis and rectification of wind turbine systems, all compliant with health and safety systems.
- 5 x SAP (Senior Authorised Person) Technicians – expected to progress to HV Safety Controller, and assisting with commissioning and operational activities, outage coordination for routine and reactive maintenance, active promotion of the project’s strong safety culture, to manage the HV network operation, and coordinate O&M activities across the windfarm assets.
- 1 x Site Administrator – to support all aspects of general administration and secretarial duties, in support of the site team based in the office including arranging travel, accommodation, meeting rooms and events.
- 1 x Production Manager – to be responsible for the delivery and planning of activities associated with Windfarm production and Health and Safety targets.

(2) Energy Generation
It is estimated that the average annual generation expected at the site could be equivalent to the approximate domestic needs of an expected minimum of 800,000 average UK households.
Energy predicted to be generated by the proposal is derived using wind speeds monitored in the local area and correlated with long term reference data. The energy capture predicted and hence derived homes equivalent figure may change as further data are gathered.
Equivalent homes supplied is based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4100 kWh. This figure is supported by recent domestic electricity consumption data available from The Digest of UK Energy Statistics and household figures from the UK National Statistics Authority.”
